I started cycling by riding to school, when I was in Primary school. My uncle did some of the Road races and said I should join. I started training for these races. Back then I rode with the Cyclelab Club. On one ride coming back into Broadacres, the Cyclelab Youth Academy came past the group and I jumped on. I gave them a bit of a hard time. The following day I was invited to go on a cycling training camp with the Youth Academy. Everything started from there.
I joined the Youth Academy Team and we were very successful especially because we had Louis Mentjies and Bradley Mitchel on the team.
As a first year Junior we went to Europe and raced several National Cups. As a Second year Junior I was part of the first A[S]G cycling Team with the late, Adam Reyneke.
As a Junior rider I was very successful. I won the SA TT and came 2nd in the road race. That year we won 95% of the races on the calendar.
Thereafter, as an U23 rider I went to Spain to race with Caja Rural, a Spanish Team. I was thrown into the deep but it enabled me to see what I had to do in order to make it in Europe.
In 2013, I was proudly selected to ride the Mzansi Tour race on behalf of the South Africa National Team with Robbie Hunter. This was a great experience as he won the Tour that year and it was fantastic to be a part of it. In the middle of 2013 I signed with Bonitas Pro-Cycling.
During 2014 and 2015, I signed with Europcar Pro Cycling. I went for a 3 month stint to a French club that I spoke to over emails and took the bold move to further develop myself with a new pursuit in France. I spent most of the year in France. I put everything on the line which proved to be challenging, however I used this to motivate me in pursuing my passion in cycling.
I am still very determined to race at an international level again!
I am a Big BMW Fanatic. In my spare time I restore my classic BMW. My latest project that I am working on is a 1984 BMW e23 735i
My dream is to one day win a stage in a stage in a Grand Tour.
